Google Business Profile edits pending or not showing: why it happens and what to do

By the RankSharp team · 4 November 2026 · 7 min read

You changed your hours, your phone number or your business name on Google, and days later the old details are still showing. Your profile says edits are pending, under review or not approved, or your new photos never appear. This is one of the most common Google Business Profile problems, and it is almost always fixable. Here is why Google holds changes, how long it usually takes, and what to do when an edit is stuck or rejected.

Why Google reviews your edits

Anyone who manages a profile can change it, so Google checks changes before showing them to customers. This protects businesses from competitors or strangers editing their phone number or address. Most small changes pass quickly. Changes that affect who you are and where you are get a closer look:

  • Business name
  • Address or service area
  • Primary category
  • Phone number
  • Website link

Some of these changes can also ask you to verify the profile again. If that happens, our guide to Google Business Profile verification problems explains each method.

How long edits usually take

There is no fixed time. Simple edits such as a description, opening hours or services often show within a day, while name, address and category changes can take several days and sometimes longer. Holiday hours are best set a week or two ahead so they are live in time.

What slows things down most is making more edits while the first one is still in review. Each new change can restart the check, so wait for one edit to finish before you make the next big one.

What the different messages mean

  • Edits pending or under review: Google has your change and has not finished checking it. Customers still see the old version.
  • Not approved: Google rejected the change. The old details stay live.
  • Google updated your profile: Google changed something itself, often from a suggestion by a member of the public. You can review it and correct anything that is wrong.
  • Verify again: the change was big enough that Google wants to confirm the business again before showing it.

Why an edit gets rejected

  1. It does not match the rest of the web. If your website, signage, Facebook page and other listings still show the old name or phone number, Google may trust them over your edit. Update those first.
  2. It breaks the guidelines. Adding words like "Best" or "Cheap Plumber Near Me" to the business name, using a PO box or virtual office as an address, or choosing a category for work you do not really do.
  3. Too many changes at once. Name, address, category and phone changed on the same day looks like someone taking over a profile.
  4. The profile is new or was recently suspended. New and recently reinstated profiles are checked more closely for a while.

What to do when an edit is stuck or rejected

  1. Read the message on your profile. Sign in and look at the notice next to the field. It often tells you whether the edit is pending, rejected or needs verification.
  2. Make your website match first. Put the new name, address, phone or hours on your website, in the footer and on your contact page.
  3. Update the other big listings. Apple Maps through Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook and the main directories for your trade.
  4. Submit the change once, cleanly. Exactly as it appears on your sign and website, with no extra words.
  5. Wait, and do not keep resubmitting. Give it several days without other big edits.
  6. Contact support if it is still stuck. If the edit is still pending after a couple of weeks, or keeps being rejected and you are sure it is correct, contact Google Business Profile support from the help center and include proof such as a photo of your sign or a utility bill.

Photos that stay pending

New photos are checked too. They are more likely to be held or removed when they:

  • Look like stock images, screenshots or adverts with lots of text
  • Are blurry, dark or heavily filtered
  • Do not show your business, your work or your team
  • Are uploaded in a big batch to a brand new profile

Google's photo guidelines currently ask for JPG or PNG files between 10 KB and 5 MB, at least 250 by 250 pixels, with 720 by 720 pixels recommended. Upload a few clear, real photos at a time: the outside of your premises so people can find the door, the inside, your team and your finished work.

When Google keeps changing your details back

If your hours, website or category keep switching back to something you did not choose, Google is accepting suggestions from the public or data from other sources over your own. Check every notice on your profile, reject wrong changes, and make sure your website and other listings show exactly the same details. The more consistent your information is across the web, the less often Google overrides you.

Moving or changing your name?

A move or a rebrand is the biggest edit you can make, and the most likely to trigger a review or a new verification. Follow our step by step guide on how to change your business address on Google, and never create a second profile to get around a pending edit. Duplicate profiles cause more problems than they solve; see how to fix a duplicate listing if one already exists.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my Google Business Profile edits pending?

Google reviews many changes before it publishes them, to stop people from changing businesses they do not own. Simple changes often go live quickly, while changes to the name, address, category or phone number are checked more carefully and can take several days or ask you to verify again.

How long do Google Business Profile edits take?

Many small edits, such as a description or opening hours, appear within a day. Bigger changes can take several days, and sometimes longer. If an edit is still pending after a couple of weeks and you have not changed it again, contact Google Business Profile support.

Why was my Google Business Profile edit not approved?

The most common reasons are that the change does not match what Google sees elsewhere, such as your website, signage or other listings, or that it breaks the guidelines, for example extra keywords in the business name. Fix the mismatch first, then submit the edit once.

Why are my Google Business Profile photos pending?

Photos are checked before they appear. Very new profiles, photos that look like stock images, screenshots, heavy filters or text on top can be held or rejected. Upload clear, real photos of your business, one batch at a time, and give them a few days.

Why did Google change my business information?

Google can update a profile using suggestions from the public and information from other sources. When that happens you usually see a notice on your profile. Review it, keep what is correct and edit what is wrong, then make sure your website shows the same details.

Can I speed up a pending edit on Google?

Not really. Editing the same field again usually restarts the review. The best you can do is make sure the change matches your website and signage, avoid other big edits while you wait, and contact support if it stays pending for a long time.
