Social media management pricing for small businesses

By the RankSharp team · 28 October 2026 · 6 min read

Social media management prices vary a lot, and two quotes for "managing your Instagram" can include very different amounts of work. This guide explains how pricing usually works, what you should get for your money, and the questions to ask before you sign.

How social media management is priced

Most providers charge a monthly fee based on how much they produce and how many platforms they handle. The main things that move the price:

  • Number of platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn
  • Posts per month, and whether they include Reels or short videos
  • Who creates the content: designing from your photos costs less than shooting new photos and video
  • Community management: replying to comments and messages takes time every day
  • Ads, which are usually a separate fee plus your ad budget

Typical price ranges

ProviderCommonly quoted monthly rangeWhat to expect
FreelancerAbout $300 to $1,500Good value, but depends on one person being available.
Offshore agencyAbout $150 to $800A team at lower cost; check communication and English quality.
US agencyAbout $500 to $2,500 or moreLocal team, often more strategy and content shoots.

These are broad ranges from public price lists and common quotes. Your price depends on the scope above.

What a good package includes

  • A monthly content plan you approve before anything is posted
  • Designs in your brand colours and fonts
  • Captions with a clear next step, such as "DM to book"
  • Some short videos or Reels, since they reach more people
  • Replies to comments and messages
  • A monthly report on reach, followers and, most important, enquiries

Red flags

  • Selling followers or promising a set number of followers
  • Stock photos only, with nothing from your real business
  • No approval step before posting
  • Asking for your passwords instead of partner access in Meta Business Suite
  • Reports full of likes with no mention of messages or leads

Questions to ask before you hire

  1. How many posts and Reels a month, on which platforms?
  2. Who replies to comments and messages, and how fast?
  3. Do I approve content before it goes out?
  4. Are ads included, and is the ad budget separate?
  5. Is there a contract or minimum term?
