How much does Google Business Profile management cost?

By the RankSharp team · 31 October 2026 · 8 min read

Your Google Business Profile is free. Keeping it complete, active and ahead of nearby competitors takes time, and that time is what you pay for when you hire help. This guide explains what the work involves, the common ways it is priced, what you get at different levels, and how to tell whether a quote is fair.

What Google Business Profile management includes

Good profile management is not a one time setup. It splits into two parts.

Setup and optimization

  • Claiming or creating the profile, and helping you through verification
  • Choosing the right primary and secondary categories
  • Listing every service or product, with short descriptions
  • Writing a clear, honest business description
  • Setting hours, holiday hours, attributes and service areas
  • Adding real photos of your work, team and premises
  • Checking for duplicate profiles and fixing your name, address and phone on other sites

Monthly management

  • Posting updates, offers or recent work every week
  • Adding new photos regularly
  • Replying to every review, good and bad
  • Answering questions and keeping information up to date
  • Watching for unwanted edits and suspicious changes
  • Reporting calls, website clicks and direction requests from the profile

Our Google Business Profile checklist lists every setting if you want to see the full scope.

The three ways to get it done

Doing it yourself

The cost is your time. The first setup can take a few hours if you do it properly, including photos and services. After that, posting, adding photos and replying to reviews takes a little time every week. This works well if you are organised and enjoy it. It tends to fail when the business gets busy and the profile goes quiet for months.

A freelancer

Freelancers often sell profile setup as a one off job, and some offer monthly management. Prices vary a lot, from very cheap marketplace gigs to more experienced specialists. A one off setup can be good value if you will keep the profile active yourself afterwards. Be careful with very cheap offers that promise fast rankings: they sometimes rely on keyword stuffed names or fake reviews, which can get your profile suspended.

An agency

Agencies usually charge monthly, either for profile management on its own or as part of a local SEO plan. Commonly quoted prices for ongoing management run to a few hundred dollars a month per location in the US, and more when it is bundled with website work, content and links. The advantage is consistency: someone is responsible for the profile every week, and you get a report.

What changes the price

  • Number of locations. Each location has its own profile, so work and cost grow with each one.
  • Starting point. A new or suspended profile needs more work than one that is already in good shape.
  • Competition. A dentist in a big city faces more competition than a plumber in a small town.
  • What is included. Posts and review replies only, or also photos, citations, website pages and links.
  • Reporting. A clear monthly report takes time to prepare, and it is worth having.

Profile management alone or full local SEO?

Your profile and your website work together. Google looks at the profile itself, but also at whether your website backs it up: the same name and phone, a page for each main service, and a clear mention of the areas you serve. Links and mentions on other trusted sites help too.

If you are already near the top of the map and only need the profile kept active, profile management on its own can be enough. If you are not showing at all, or are stuck below competitors, you usually need the website side as well. That is why many agencies, including us, include profile management inside local SEO plans rather than selling it separately. Our guide on how to rank higher on Google Maps explains why.

How to tell if the money is working

Rankings are easy to show in a screenshot, but they change with where the searcher is standing. Better signs come from the profile itself. Every month, check the performance section of your Google Business Profile, or ask your provider to report it:

  • Calls made from the profile
  • Website clicks and direction requests
  • Which searches your profile appeared for
  • New reviews, and whether every review got a reply
  • How many posts and photos were added

Give it a fair chance. Fixing categories, services and photos can make a difference within weeks, but steady growth in calls usually builds over a few months. If after three months the report shows the same numbers and no clear list of work done, ask why, and be ready to move on.

Questions to ask before you pay

  1. Exactly what will you do on my profile each month?
  2. Will I stay the owner of the profile? (The answer should be yes. You add them as a manager.)
  3. Do you need my Google password? (The answer should be no.)
  4. How do you get reviews? (Asking real customers is fine. Buying or rewarding reviews is not.)
  5. Will you change my business name? (Adding keywords to it breaks the guidelines.)
  6. What will the monthly report show?
  7. Is there a contract, and how do I cancel?

Red flags

  • Guaranteed top three map rankings. Nobody controls distance from the searcher, so nobody can honestly promise this.
  • Packages of reviews, or reviews written by the agency.
  • Advice to add city names or keywords to your business name.
  • Creating extra profiles for towns where you have no real location.
  • Asking to become the owner of your profile instead of a manager.

What we charge

Our Google Business Profile optimization service is included in every SEO plan: $180, $420 or $900 a month in the US, with no setup fee and no contract. Starter covers one location with full profile setup, weekly posts and review replies, plus website fixes and a monthly report. Agencies can also use it under their own brand through our white label SEO plans. If you are not sure what your profile needs, start with a free audit and we will tell you honestly, even if the answer is that you can do it yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Google Business Profile free?

Yes. Creating and managing a Google Business Profile is free. The costs people talk about are for someone else doing the setup and monthly work for you.

Is Google Business Profile optimization a one time job?

The setup is mostly one time: categories, services, description, photos and verification. Staying visible takes ongoing work, such as posts, new photos, review replies and answering questions, which is why most providers charge monthly.

Should I pay per location?

Usually, yes. Each location has its own profile, reviews and posts, so the work grows with every location you add. Ask whether a quote is per location or for the whole business.

Can I manage my profile myself?

Yes. Many owners do. If you can set aside time every week for posts, photos and review replies, and you follow the guidelines, you can manage it yourself. Our checklist covers every setting.
